Trowbridge Handicap Tournament is a Great Success

Trowbridge Squash Club held a very successful Handicap Tournament over the weekend of 3rd and 4th February.

Twenty competitors entered the tournament where each player had a handicap assigned meaning every match was incredibly close no matter how experienced or talented the two players were. Losers in the first round then went into a plate competition and this and the main tournament ran alongside each other meaning a fast and furious timetable of matches with hardly time to draw breath.

In the final of the plate tournament John Robert's speed around the court proved the deciding factor against the hard hitting Stephen Mussell, even though he had to give 9 handicap points in each game to Stephen, finally winning 14-12 in the fourth game.

The final of the main tournament was even closer with Mark McGuiness having to give 3 points in each game to Gavin Edwards. Gavin was super quick around the court ensuring really long hard rallies but in the end Mark's accurate shots proved the difference and he won the match 11-9 in the fifth game.

The sports centre was buzzing with all of the competitiors and spectators and we are looking forward to next year's competiton to see if Mark and John can retain their trophies.
