Well what a fabulous weekend of squash took place in our annual handicap tournament. The handicapping made for some intriguing matches and a few nail biting finishes with numerous matches seeing a 11-10 finish in the deciding game. The tournament had a main competition and a plate competition for anyone who lost in the first two rounds of the main competition.

In the plate tournament Dave Purdy starting on -2 and Chris Lamming on +7 lined up in the final. Although Dave managed to close the gap with his speed around the court and his touch on the drops, Chris continued his excellent form throughout the tournament showing grit and determination to win 11-4, 11-3.

In the main tournament the final featured Pete Hodgson starting on +4 and Nick Rawlings on 0. Nick had to battle all the way through the rounds, every match going to three games, whereas Pete had some more straight forward victories showing great touch in all his games. Although Nick hit the ball really well and with great power, he struggled to cope with Pete’s lob serves and floaty shots to the back corners. Pete ended up winning 11-5, 11-4, a worthy winner of this year’s tournament.

Thanks to everyone for playing their games in such excellent positive spirit, for marking matches and cheering on the players throughout.
